For a double weighted golden tarn
[08:35:51] Crow (melchior.wardell) noted what the man did and would allow him such. Surely none of them knew who is mark was. He as ever would take his time to ensure that when the kill would be there – it was done with deadly precision. “It has been a long time.” he stated “I always wondered what happened after we seen each other last?” so when the man invited him he would wave his hand in a gesture to follow.
[08:37:03] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “Things best left discussed in less public spaces,” he said simply, and with that, he continued along, his limped steps slow, but continual.
[08:41:02] Crow (melchior.wardell) followed the man to what seemed to be his private home. As he entered he would place his shield to the side as to ensure he wouldn’t knock anything over when he moved. He could see the richness of the decoration. As he follow him to the table and watched how the man took his seat. “It has been quite some time Joran, or is it Aric these days ?” he asks. Clearly Crow had done some of his homework.
[08:43:57] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “When last we saw one another, your black court was held in a city lost, and then in the port of Kar. In both those instances, I was still in the collar of Eirik Koskinen, and knew you then to be the master of the court. Your girl Haru was a much loved and dear friend to me, she is still someone I enjoy the company of. Forgive me for sending those of my caste away, I knew you wished to speak with me. I was both trying to get them to stop meddling, and in truth, I worried for them. Please,” he gestured to a seat at hsi dining room table. “May I offer you something to drink?” He looked up, listening. “Aric was a use name I went by when I came here, I later had it properly and legally changed. The warriors of Telnus made sure I understood the cost of standing up to a warrior, but, I did what was right in my heart, and I would do it again, even knowing the price.”

[08:48:04] Crow (melchior.wardell) took a seat as he listens. “I know my girl to be fond of you too.” he replied. “I lost track of Eirik after I lend him gold.” he added. There was no anger in his voice. No judgment that Eirik might have fooled him. He was sure the money would return one day. “I met your son. A young and promising son. Atleast I guessed he was yours due to his purple eyes. I never learned to know someone else with those.” he admitted. “And now you are head of caste ?” he asks. As to the offer of drink he would dismiss it. “I fear that while I hunt I refrain myself from those pleasures.” he shared. “The warriors of Telnus?” he asks “What happened?” curious to that story.
[08:58:00] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “I am sorry to hear that lent coin must necessitate your seeking the borrower. I am not made of coin, but I do have some. If I may ask, what is owed? I can assist to pay the debt. Eirik is still someone I care about, and see regularly. My son, yes… I only just learned not long that I had a blood heir. His mother never told me, and he sought me out, here, after she died. I was the head of the scribes caste here, but no longer. There was a coup. A man called by the name of Trent Victus manipulated Lilura, one of my former scribes. She arranged for a petition, it was a a whole nasty business, and an attempt at a power grab. As for the warriors of Telnus, the short version is, that my former, and very first free companion was trying to support and comfort me when a warrior of Telnus was being openly disrespectful and cruel. But I recognized that the warrior was trying to bait him, and I worried for him. I got in between Antonius and Cassien. Told the warrior I would give him a debt if only he would let it be,
[08:58:08] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): leave Cassien alone. I would have given over a debt without time constraints, without limits at the time. Even had it cost me dearly. I loved him. That was all I could see at the time. I only wanted to keep him safe. I have always been a deeply feeling man. That hasn’t changed.” He sighed. “The warrior tricked him, challenged him. I drew a weapon to try to defend him, even knowing I was no match for a warrior. The warrior beat both of us savagely. Cassien was better off than I. I still can’t breathe properly, and if I move too fast, I get to wheezing. I’ll never be able to run again, I’m not physically capable of it. That was for that alone. Still worse, Telnus arrested me when I called for the warrior to be arrested. I was accused of things, denied food and water, for days, tortured, by their warriors. I am missing toes on both my feet now, my balance is compromised, I need this. to walk well now.” He lifted his cane.
[09:06:20] Crow (melchior.wardell) listens and for a moment a smile would form on his lips. “Do not worry about gold or a debt. Eirik and I will meet again. I am sure.” he replied. “I had hope to see him succeed within the Port. And yet there it fell in to disgrace of the Priest Kings.” with the last words he would regard Aric as if it sympathized something important. “At times I reflect on my life and consider it one with many twists and turns and yet when I hear yours … I feel like mine is a calm brook while yours is a wild river.” he arched a brow at the tale of Telnus. He would lift himself up now as to start pace “Did you know they have no love for our caste ? We are no longer allowed armed within the city.” he stated. “The men in the city cruel and foolish. But surely they will eventually get what is theirs. Life always has a way of doing that.” he added. “How did you escape that predicament ?” he asks as noted the cane “It looks like an amazing piece of craftsmanship. May I ?”he asked while he held out his hand as to see it from near.
[09:16:19] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “Yes, I was initially a wharf praetor there, but so much happened. After what those of Telnus did to me, I have no love in my heart for them, and yet, our now Ubar declares us at war with Genesian Port, and under martial law. Even now I am under task to see to aiding him in revising the laws of Victoria. I thought surely he summoned me to kill me, and come to find out, he would offer me the mantle of Regent instead.” He looked up and smiled, “I have never until Victoria been sworn to a home stone. Never loved a people and been loyal to the ideals of wanting a city to thrive before the way I do here. Though I am often busy, for the first time in my life, I am truly happy. I feel like I am part of something greater than the sum of myself alone, and like I can nd do actually make a difference. Here, I have been able to help people, and to serve the people, and it feels… Worthwhile. Fulfilling on a level nothing else has ever touched, save one. My Ubar has told me of his want not to have killers in the city,
[09:16:27] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): but I know you have been here seeking of late. I do not know whom it is you hunt, but I hope for their sake, that it is swift, and painless. I wonder… If the man, or woman, that you must kill here, were to be collared, their personhood would be ended. By all accounts slain. Would it be an acceptable resolution to a man like you? To bring low and kill their status as a free, rendering them slave?” He became quiet a moment, and offered up the cane. “It is in truth a weapon, a custom made piece. The sheath and end comes away. Not that I am in any condition to fight were I cornered. I’d never stand a chance. I can’t even dance around to move to flee. My balance won’t allow for it.” Another sigh. “But, despite that, so many good thigns have happened here. I am -so- proud of my daughter. She, is now our head of caste. She is being courted by one of our high council. As a father, I couldn’t ask for a finer daughter than Anna.”
[09:19:07] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “As for how I ‘escaped’, I didn’t. Their Ubar tried to kill me. I was heaved from the back of his palace, after everything else that was done to me. My shoulder his a rocky outcropping, and the waterfall carried me to the Thassa below. I was on death’s door when Eirik found me, and brought me here. His free companion tended me initially. For months I was laid up, recovering. Even now, as you can see, I will live with what Telnus did to me for the rest of my life.”
[09:19:30] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): hit not his*
[09:26:43] Crow (melchior.wardell) would listen. In this moment there were three men inside of this room. The man he was born to be. The man that could still feel. That knew that what was shared was true. A man truly happy for once ? A man that held his family to high regards, gave his time and duty for the citizens of the Port. He could see the heartship the man had faced over the years. He had been witness of it and remembered the encounters well. Perhaps if the other side of Crow had not been here he would have placed a hand upon the mans shoulder. Squeezed as to tell him he did well. That he should be proud of what he had accomplished. Even now as Aric had invited into his home. Crow could feel the dishonesty of it. For a moment that man seeped through. “You have achieved things none would imagine when we met first.”he stated kindly. The warmth of what once was a father draped around them. As he would look at the cane and continued to listen he would study it further. He would turn his attention back to Aric “As to your question
[09:26:43] Crow (melchior.wardell): concerning the hunt. Unfortunately to escape the mark is only death. There is no debate or escape not even one that is often granted submission. In that I do wear the black for reason.” he explained one of the codes of his caste. Which might be already telling. “So Regent ?” he asks. “Anything that you wish to accomplish yet ?” he asked further as he would take the weapon from its sheath.
[09:31:42] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): “I spent most of my life as a slave. I am 312 years old, and 12 of those years were spent as a scribe. I have at times questioned if I made the rights choices. I think all men do. It has never been my pleasure to have to do what has needed to be done when it came to disciplining others.” He watched as Crow pulled the sheath and revealed the thin hidden blade, and couldn’t help but swallow nervously. Aric looked up at the killer, searching his eyes for an answer to an unspoken question. He was frightened, it shown in his eyes. Was the man asking if he had any last requests?
[09:40:18] Crow (melchior.wardell) balanced the thin weapon as he listens to Aric. In a way Crow truly could. Not only hearing the words but feeling the weight of every one of them. He was unfortunately not only the man that was still capable of feeling. He was also the killer, the assassin that had not earned his livery easy. Every time he would face a certain death that of his mark or his own. It designed a man that was able to shut down any emotion that would stop you from your murder. It was a man only those that eventually had met their demise would truly see. The killer that held no judgment to whatever wrong or right. It was a man simply paid to do a job. And that job was murder. When that change came about in Crow. He could read the question in Aric’s eyes. He could see the mans fear. And with it he would do as he requested. He would aim quick and precise into his heart. “I will be swift.” he than whispered as to make a final vow.
[09:46:24] Aric Descian (wickedworkofheart): Swallowing harshly, he looked about, thankful his children were not here to be placed in danger for witness or to themselves be placed at risk. He had so many questions, the who. The why. But he knew better than to ask. This was a killer, a man who had a job to do, and limited time to complete his task. He could call out, and some might hear, but to what end? “You asked if there is anything still that I would accomplish, there is. Will you allow me to write a document and will you then deliver that document to the scribes hall? A will, to ensure my children who depend upon me are well cared and provided for? Grant me this one ask, in honor of the respect and hospitality I have shown you. It is all I ask. Please?”
[09:52:23] Crow (melchior.wardell) was no longer the father or friend. Crow was the killer and knew that in the moment of the mans death he could scream or make his perfect murder one that could bring him his death. So when the question came, Crow shook his head coldly. “There is no honor in the assassin, Aric. But I know Eirik and I know your children will be well cared for – even if I never get my gold back because of it.” Perhaps it was easier to let him write that letter – it cared not. No assassin would be stopped out of obligation or good decency. So he would twist the weapon as to perforate the mans heart so it would internally loose enough blood. Perhaps ensure that there was no longer blood flow to the mans head and reason. No cry for help even escaping due to his well performed kill ?

[09:53:08] Crow (melchior.wardell) would lower the cane and take his knife and worked at a speed that only someone who had done it many times before would achieve. He would slit his throat with that. It was efficient and he could do it in a way that only his blade would contain Aric’s blood.
[09:53:47] Crow (melchior.wardell) looked carefully at Aric again. “You angered the wrong people in Telnus. Your life has been paid for. They learned from your escape.” He would do another check just to be sure the man would loose his life. The wound was one that you couldn’t just recover from. In fact, it was certain that this life was really over.
[09:54:17] Crow (melchior.wardell) stood beside him. “I will await your chaos in the city of dust, Aric.” He closed his eyes for a moment as a kind of final tribute. Knowing that one day he too would face those gates of his after life. Then he would leave quickly.

This was an amazing end scene, done between two experienced players who are friends out of character, and whose characters had history. While it is never easy to lose a character, I have all the respect in the world for Crow as a writer and player, and feel honored that the master assassin hunted my character. He worked for it. He did the leg work. He one hundred percent earned this kill.

Oh how I wish the combat section had something to read. I kinda wanted to have a dramatic combat scene to read through. 😮

I am not a warrior, Lyra. Those might be more interesting when it comes to combat. Or ask our trainees. 😉

Aric was crippled, from what those in Telnus did to him. He never stood a chance in any sort of physical confrontation. Not only was he missing multiple toes, and had compromised balance, but his breathing was compromised as well due to a punctured lung that had been reinjured multiple times while healing. He wasn’t physically capable of running or moving around quickly.
